“Beazer came over at about 2 am, he said:
“I am on a date, and she is only 17
and I've got to get her back to Pasadena,
and all I've got left in the car is reverse”.
I said: “how can I help?”. He
said: “I need gas money”. So he sold me a couple of jokes.
"He said: “You can
have these jokes, you don’t even need to tell folks that they are mine
because you've paid for them for God’s sake”, and I said: “That sounds like a good deal
to me”.
Anyway, he drove home in reverse on the Pasadena freeway in the slow
lane;
... it was a ´55
Caddy”.
Historia de "OL 55". Concierto VH1 Storytellers,1999. Tom Waits.
Well my time went so quickly,
I went lickety-splitly out to my old '55
As I pulled away slowly, feeling so holy,
God knows I was feeling alive.
Now the sun's coming up,
I'm riding with Lady Luck,
Freeway cars and trucks,
Stars beginning to fade,
And I lead the parade
Just a-wishing I'd stayed a little longer,
Oh, Lord, let me tell you
That the feeling's getting stronger.
And it's six in the morning,
Gave me no warning; I had to be on my way.
Well there's trucks all a-passing me,
And the lights are all a-flashing,
I'm on my way home from your place.
And now the sun's coming up,
I'm riding with Lady Luck,
Freeway cars and trucks,
Stars beginning to fade,
And I lead the parade
Just a-wishing I'd stayed a little longer,
Oh, Lord, let me tell you
That the feeling's getting stronger.
And my time went so quickly,
I went lickety-splitly out to my old '55
As I pulled away slowly, feeling so holy,
God knows, I was feeling alive.
Now the sun's coming up,
I'm riding with Lady Luck,
Freeway cars and trucks,
Freeway cars and trucks,
Freeway cars and trucks...
I went lickety-splitly out to my old '55
As I pulled away slowly, feeling so holy,
God knows I was feeling alive.
Now the sun's coming up,
I'm riding with Lady Luck,
Freeway cars and trucks,
